Maintenance and cleaning
The appliance can be dismantled for cleaning purposes. To
do so, open the battery compartment lid (2), remove the
batteries from the battery compartment, loosen 3 screws on
the sealing lid of the food container (5). Remove the lid (5):
Now it is possible to remove the spiral spring (8), the stopper
lid (7) and the screw conveyor (6). Reassemble accordingly
after cleaning.
If desired, clean the food container (3) with a moist soft cloth
(do not use vinegar or other detergents!), and let dry
thoroughly after cleaning before it can be closed again with
lid/sealing.
In case of thorough cleaning, always make sure that the
removed spiral spring and the screws do not get in contact
with water. Upon contact with water, the parts should always
be dried carefully immediately before they are put back in
place. The batteries (14) can be inserted again after cleaning
is finished.
After longer periods of use, the automatic feeder should be
cleaned at least quickly. Remove the sealing lid (5), take or
gently knock out food remainders. Then push the stopper
lid (7) at the food delivery opening back with a screwdriver,
for removing possible food remainders between the
moveable stopper lid (7) and the food delivery opening.
Batteries
2 pcs.
LR6/1.5V/AA
batteries are being used for operating
the
sera X-Feeder
.
Check voltage and polarity before putting the batteries in.
Check whether the batteries should be replaced in case of
blinking battery level display. Always replace both batteries
together.
Check batteries regularly as to avoid leaking batteries.
Remove BOTH batteries from the battery compartment
before a longer non-usage period.
Installing the automatic feeder at the aquarium
The holder clamp (9) can be installed in different positions
according to the image. This allows installation at horizontal
or vertical glass edges of an aquarium. A slide (13) directing
the food in one direction can optionally be attached at the
food delivery opening. The included pedestal (10) with
integrated funnel allows placing the appliance on an even
surface. It can also be attached to the surface with a piece of
double-sided adhesive tape (15).
Rest position
If you do not need the automatic feeder you can deactivate
the appliance. Press the On/Off key (a) for a few seconds to
do so until the display turns off. Now feeding will stop, but
the time will continue. The automatic feeder is activated
again by pressing the On/Off key (a) somewhat longer.
However, you should remove the batteries in case of longer
storage as to avoid the risk of leaking batteries.
Filling with food
Open the lid (4) for filling food granules or flake food into the
food container. Use the included paper funnel (11) for filling
in the food. If you feed flake food, the flakes must be crushed
with carefully dried fingers before filling it in.
Afterwards the food container (3) is loosely filled with crushed
flakes (or granules), the flakes should not be pressed firmly
when doing so.
The general rule is:
The higher the density of a food, the
more food per feeding event is delivered. The more even the
shape of the food, the less food amount deviance, and the
better the total emptying of the food container. In case of
filling with flakes it must be considered that flake food cannot
be emptied by 100% due to its lower weight and uneven
shape, so a sufficient food amount must be provided in the
first place.
In case of evenly shaped granules with a grain size between
1.5 – approximately 2.5 mm, the fully filled automatic
X-Feeder can deliver food up to 50 times*.
* This figure only serves as guide value as the delivered
portion strongly depends on grain size and evenness.
Theoretical calculation cannot replace test feeding before
you are being absent.
