Power unit (check and
adjustment)
Checking the compression pressure
1. Start the engine, warm it up for 5 min-
utes, and then stop it.
2. Remove the clip from the engine shut-off
switch.
3. Disconnect the spark plug caps, and then
remove the spark plugs.
NOTICE:
Before removing the spark plugs,
remove any dirt or dust in the spark
plug wells that may fall into the cylin-
ders.
4. Install the special service tool

5. Fully open the throttle.
6. Crank the engine until the reading on the
compression gauge stabilizes, and then
measure the compression pressure.
TIP:
When pulling the starter handle to crank the
engine, the compression pressure may vary
depending on the speed at which the starter
handle is pulled. (Manual starter model)
7. Remove the special service tool.
8. Install the spark plugs, and then connect
the spark plug caps.
Checking the oil pressure
1. Remove the oil pressure switch, and then
install an oil pressure gauge

.
2. Start the engine and warm it up until the
idle speed gets stable at 925–1025 r/min.
3. Measure the oil pressure.
TIP:
The actual oil pressure may vary depending
the temperature and viscosity of the engine
oil being used.
4. Stop the engine.
5. Remove the oil pressure gauge, and then
install the oil pressure switch.
Checking the pulser coil air gap
1. Remove the manual starter. See
“Removing the manual starter” (7-7).
