About this manual
This manual provides instruc tions on installing and
operating your new Seagate Travan portable USB tape
drive. Chapters 2 and 3 contain installation instructions.
Subsequent chapters describe how to operate and care
for your tape drive and cartridges, and provide trouble-
shooting tips and technical support information.
Note. Wherever page numbers are referenced in this
manual, clicking on the page number will take you
to that page.
About your Travan tape drive
Seagate’s Travan USB drive is available in 20GB and
40GB models, with capacities of up to 20 and 40 Gbytes,
respectively (based on 2:1 data compression). For a list
of the tape formats supported by each drive, see page 16.
Note. You cannot use TR-1, TR-2, TR-3 or QIC-80 tapes
with either the 20GB or the 40GB drive. In addi-
tion, you cannot use TR-4 tapes in the 40GB drive.
