6 PC SOFTWARE

6.1 Installation

Install  the  STI  PCW software  by  inserting  the  CD  shipped  with the  STI  5000  Series
Tester in the PC CD drive.  The installation “wizard” will automatically load.  Follow
the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

Note:  if  there  is  an  earlier  version  of  the  STI  PCW  already  installed  on  the  PC,  it  is
advisable to uninstall this earlier version prior to installing the new version.  Use the
“Start”  button  on  the  PC  and  then  “Settings”  and  “Control  Panel”  and  then  select
“Add/Remove” and select the PCW program from the list.

Note: if the installation “wizard” does not run automatically, use the “Start” button on
the  PC and th

en select “Run” and then select “Browse” and select “Setup” from the

list on the CD drive.

6.2 Getting Started

Minimum PC requirements:



PC with Windows .



One serial port free to connect to the STI 5000 Series Tester.



Pentium 100MHz or better processor recommended

Information  concerning  the  Main  window  size  is  saved  in  the  registry  file  for  the
currently active user.  The first time the STI PCW program is launched by the user, a
warning message may be displayed indicating that the STI PCW program was unable
to  read  the  registry  file.    This  is  normal  and  should  be  ignored.    The  registry  file  is
updated when the STI PCW program is closed.
Create  a  shortcut,  if  desired,  to  the  STI  PCW  program  and  move  it  to  the  desktop.
Launch the STI PCW program by double clicking on the STI logo.

Use  the  mouse  or  the  “ALT-key”  combination  to  access  the  main  menu.    Use  the
“Sub-Menu  Key”  or  right  mouse  button  to  access  the  popup  menu  of  an  individual
window. Speed buttons and “hot keys” are provided for some of menu items.

menu and change, if required, the selected

serial port used to connect the PC to the STI 5000 Series Tester. The message at the
bottom  left  of  the  STI  window  should  say  “Com  Port  open”.    If  the  message  “error
opening port” is displayed, try changing to the other serial port.  Be sure the selected
PC  COM  port  is  connected  to  the  STI  5000  Series  Tester  with  a  standard  RS-232
cable and null modem adapter (Note: if using the USB / Serial Adaptor the assigned
serial port may be fo
