12  MULTIPLEXER 

 

12.1 Description 

The Multiplex Adaptor converts one set of device leads to three or four independent 
sets of device leads.  Each set requires a Manual Station or device cable to connect 
to a Handler/Prober.  The Manual Station acts like a manual handler and provides for 
the manual testing of devices. 
 
Each Manual Station may be selected as manual handler or a standard handler by a 
toggle  switch  located  on  the  Manual  Station  back  panel.   When  the  switch  is  in  the 
manual mode the Manual  Station “MANUAL” LED  will be turned on;  likewise,  when 
the switch is in the handler mode the Manual Station “HANDLER” LED will be turned 
on. 

12.2 Installation 

The Multiplex Adaptor is a separate chassis.  A cable connects the Multiplex Adaptor 
to  the  front  panel  jacks  of  the  5000  Series  Tester.    A  9-pin  D-Sub  cable  connects 
from the Multiplex Adaptor to the Adaptor Control connector on the front panel of the 
5000 Series Tester.  Two 25-pin D-Sub cables connect from the Multiplex Adaptor to 
the Multiplex Adaptor Control connectors on the rear panel of the 5000 Series Tester.  
Additionally, a device cable from the Multiplex Adaptor to the station and a 25-pin D-
Sub (Multiplex Station Control) from the rear panel  of the 5000 Series Tester to the 
station are required for each station (See Figure 12-1).
