SPB Operation Manual

Changing boom pipe

When the boom pipe is originally installed at the factory,

the location of the elbows at each of the pivot points is

determined by means of a special centering tool. The

pipeline is always installed stress-free while the boom

is in the folded or “transport” position. Putting pipes on

incorrectly can put excessive strain on the boom and

can cause damage to pipe arms.

If you intend to change several sections of pipe, always

replace them one at a time and in sequence. Measure

and mark each piece as it is removed and replace it with

a pipe of exactly the same length.

Do not dismantle the complete pipeline. If you are forced

to do so, the elbows at each articulation will once again

need to be centered properly. This should only be done

by trained personnel, using the proper tools.

• Always install new or like new pipeline on the

boom.

• Use new gaskets and pins in the clamps

• Clean and check the clamps carefully and grease

them before re-installing.

The clamps and gaskets should be greased with

a lubricant compatible with rubber. The grease

should be a water resistant, heavy-duty, lithium/

calcium based.

Time-related Maintenance

Periodic - structural inspection

A complete structural inspection of the concrete pump,

boom, and outrigger assembly should be performed at

the following intervals:

•

The first five years - at least once per year.

• Five to ten years - every 6 months

• Ten years and older - every 500 working hours or

at least once per year, whichever occurs first.

We, the manufacturer, would like to emphasize

that it is the owner’s responsibility to ensure that

the boom inspections are completed and that

the equipment is operated only under safe con-

ditions.
