5.1.
Opening and Closing the Chassis
The KBox E-420-R1K/V1K is factory configured to meet customer requirements. Kontron
does not recommend opening the system as this may cause damage to internal
components.
Before opening the KBox E-420-V1K, the system must be switched off and disconnected
from the main power supply. Also, disconnect all peripheral devices from the KBox E-
420-R1K/V1K. Before you begin, ensure that you have a clean, flat and ESD-safe surface
to work on.
For opening and closing the KBox E-420-R1K/V1K, please perform the following steps:
1.
Close all applications. Shut down the system properly and disconnect the connection to the main power source.
Disconnect all peripherals.

The KBox E-420-R1K/V1K should lay on a flat, clean surface with the access cover facing upwards.
3.
Loosen and remove the Phillips screws (three located on the front I/O panel, three on the rear I/O panel and the
other two on the bottom), that secure the top access cover to the chassis. Retain the screws for later use.
