4.2 Depth Measurement
One can measure depth of the pipeline while tracing the path. Specific operations as
follows:
4.2.1 Depth measurement with direct reading rule
1) Place the receiver directly over the cable with the handle of the receiver in line
with the cable and do not move it during the depth measurement.
2) Adjust gain value to bring the numerical value between 700 and 900.
3) Press the depth measurement button I and release it immediately. After several
seconds, the depth value with unit cm displays on the screen at numerical area for
several seconds. Thereafter, the receiver returns to the locating mode with the
numerical value of signal strength.
4) If you do not see the depth value clearly, you can repeat the procedure 3).
5) If display –cm after depressing the depth measurement button, it indicates that the
depth is more than 250 cm, beyond the depth range with direct reading rule.
6) Be careful when making depth measurement near bends, tees, fault and above
rough pavement, the depth measurement may be inaccurate or invalid due to the
distorted magnetic field.

4.2.2 Depth measurement with 80% rule
1) Place the receiver directly over the target cable with the receiver handle in line
with the cable and do not move it during the depth measurement.
2) Adjust gain value to bring the numerical value between 700 and 900. For example,
the current numerical value is 850.
