Smith Chart format
Smith Chart is a tool for mapping the reflection Measure data of the measured piece to impedance. Each point on the chart
represents one complex impedance made up of real resistance (R) and virtual reactance (±jX). The resistance value, reactance
value and reactance equivalent capacitance or inductance of the measured piece may be read through the marker.
Fig. 4-25 Smith Chart Format
The central horizontal axis of Smith Chart represents pure resistance, and the center point of horizontal axis represents system
impedance; the far left resistance is zero which represents short circuit; the far right resistance of horizontal axis is infinite which
represents enabled circuit.
On the chart, the points on the circle intersecting with horizontal axis have the same resistance value.
On the chart, the points on the circle (or arc) tangent with horizontal axis have the same resistance value.
On the chart, the reactance of the upper part is positive, therefore it's inductive zone; the reactance of the lower part is negative,
therefore it’s capacitive zone.
