Safety First USA Gas Detectors & Gas Valve Controller
Scentry III-GFRAB
Installation and Operating Instructions
General Information
Safety First USA’s Scentry III - GFRAB is a Gas Valve Controller that will keep ON a normally closed Gas valve. With the presence of an
unsafe Level of Combustible gas, this gas valve controller will go into the alarm mode and shut-off one or more gas valves stopping the flow of gas
.
Location
The gas valve controller should be placed the same as smoke detectors. You should install one gas valve controller for every 900 Square
feet of space to be protected. In a very large room space the detectors on 25-foot centers. Locate the gas valve controller in areas where a gas leak and
accumulation is most likely to occur. If the gas being used is Propane, butane or LP “ WHICH ARE HEAVER THAN AIR” the gas valve controller
should be mounted 8”–12’ from the floor. If the gas being used is natural gas “ WHICH IS LIGHTER THAN AIR” the gas valve controller should be
mounted 8”–12” from the ceiling. It is recommended that the gas valve be mounted on the out side of the building.
Installation
Determine the proper size gas valve needed. Note the power requirements for this valve. The gas valve controller can control valves up to
24VA. Mount the gas valve controller at its optimum location. Plumb the gas valve. Attach two 18awg wires from the gas valve to terminals 4 and 5
on the gas valve controller’s 5 pin connector.
Operation
The Safety First USA Gas Valve Controller (GFRAB) will go into alarm mode at a 10% (LEL) lower explosive level. The alarm point of
methane (natural gas) will vary from unit to unit, but be near this 10% level. After power has been on for two minutes the detector is ready to protect
the home. A green LED should be on indicating power has been applied. Any time this LED changes to RED and the alarm goes to a BEEP- BEEP
mode the gas Valve controller will drop out the gas valve and stop the flow of gas to the appliances being protected. The ONLY way to reset this unit
is to remove the unburned fuel (vent the area that caused the alarm) and then push the red reset button.
Testing the Installation
The installation should always be tested. Use an
un-lighted
butane cigarette lighter and direct the gas to flow into the exposed sensor of the
gas valve controller. In one or two seconds the gas valve controller will go into alarm and make a very loud BEEP – BEEP sound and shut off the gas
valve being controlled. After 10 – 20 seconds the gas will clear and you can push the reset button. This will turn the gas valve back on. Pushing the
RESET button is the ONLY way to reset this gas valve controller.
Alarms should be taken seriously
The sensor used in this product is a very sensitive chemical sensor. It will go into alarm with different concentrations of different
chemicals. Some of the chemicals that will cause an alarm in some concentrations. Alcohol, Butane, Gasoline, Hydrogen (from charging batteries),
Kerosene, LP Gas, Propane, and Natural Gas (Methane).
Take ANY Alarm Serious.
TREAT ALL ALARMS AS POTENTIAL EMERGENCIES.
