41.3.4. Link Backup On Demand
Use the On-demand option to keep interfaces down until they are needed by link failover:
• When the On-demand option is enabled on an interface, the interface is down by default. The interface
is brought up when needed by the link failover function, and is brought down again when no longer
needed.
• When the On-demand option is not enabled on an interface, the interface is always up by default.
The On-demand option can be set for the following interfaces:
• eth: on the Routable Ethernet Ports form at /interface/eth{interface id}
• wan hdlc-eth connections: on the HDLC-ETH form at /interface/wan{interface id}/t1/channel{channel
id}/connection/hdlc-eth
• wan mlppp connections: on the Multilink PPP form at /interface/wan{interface id}/t1/channel{channel
id}/connection/mlppp
• wan ppp connections: on the PPP form at /interface/wan{interface id}/t1/channel{channel id}/
connection/ppp
• wan framerelay connections: on the DLCI form at /interface/wan{interface id}/t1/channel{channel id}/
connection/framerelay/dlci
After enabling the on-demand option, the On-demand field indicates the option’s status on the
.
The On-demand feature is not available on switched ports, even though the link failover
function is available on VLAN switched ports. The On-demand feature is available only on
WAN and ETH interfaces.
41.3.5. Viewing Link Failover Status
The Link Fail Over Status form displays the current link failover status. To view the link failover status
in normal or edit mode, navigate to /services/link-failover{interface id}/status.
