ROTWILD USER MANUAL | 2014
Potential accident risk
For reasons of safety, you should never attempt
any repairs over and above those described in
this manual. Unprofessional work on safety-
relevant parts, such as headset, braking system
and suspension, exposes you and other road
users to potential danger. In the case of a
malfunction, you could lose control of your bike
leading to a fall or accident in which you and/or
other persons may be injured.
We recommend an initial inspection of
your bike after the first 500 km.
Check your bike at regular intervals. Please pay
particular attention to the following components:
•
Headset bearing
•
Suspension forks
•
Bottom bracket
•
Pedals
•
Tyres
•
Wheels
•
Chain
•
Brakes
headset bearing
The suspension forks and handlebar stem rotate
on bearings mounted in the frame. To ensure
that the bike can be steered smoothly, it is ne-
cessary that the headset bearing rotates easily
and without play.
Smooth action
•
Lift your bike at the front until the front wheel
just leaves the ground.
•
Turn the handlebars to the left and to the
right. The handlebars should move smoothly
without any catching.
Check for play in the headset bearing
•
Put one hand on the lower headset bearing.
•
Activate the front wheel brake and move the
bike backwards and forwards.
If there is any noticeable play between the
suspension forks and the frame, the headset be-
aring must be adjusted. This adjustment should
only be performed by a qualified professional
dealer.
Potential accident risk
Never ride with a loose headset bearing. The
steering tube could break and cause total loss
of control over your bike. This could lead to
a fall or accident in which you and/or other
persons may be injured.
