with reduced physical and mental abilities) or lack of experience
and knowledge of dealing with motorcycles (e.g. older children)!
• Keep the packaging film and packaging away from children, as
there is a danger of suffocation.
• Knowledge and practical experience in motorcycle mechanics is
required for mounting a steering head bearing on a motorcycle.
If you have any doubt whatsoever about your technical abilities,
have a professional mechanic carry out the installation and
adjustment.
NOTE!
Risk of damage!
• For safety reasons, unauthorised modifications and/or changes to
the product are not permitted.
4 | How to use
Place the dismantled, lower triple tree of your bike on a well-lit, clean and sturdy work
surface. The old steering head bearing has been removed.
Thoroughly clean the bearing seat on the triple tree/lower steering column and remove
any burr that may have formed during removal of the old bearing.
Measure the new bearing in order to ensure that it is suitable for your vehicle.
Replace any original spacer rings and/or dust seals in their original positions on the

triple tree. Now place the inner ring of the lower steering head bearing (if necessary
with the attached taper bearing cage – in this case, pre-lubricate the underside prior
to installation) on the steering column and without tilting it, push it onto the slightly
thicker seat. Check again that the ring is level and mounted parallel to the triple tree,
before placing the inner ring in its final, zero-play position using the Rothewald Driver.
Depending on the diameter of the bearing ring, this can be done directly using the
shaft of the driver, which is placed over the steering column, or with the help of the
most suitable adapter ring. A couple of clouts with a heavy hammer on the head of the
tool will drive the bearing ring into its final position. However, it is important to ensure
that the taper roller bearings do not hit the bearing cage – there must be no contact
between them and the adapter ring! The bearing ring sits evenly on the lower triple tree
with zero play. The tool vibrates slightly when hit and the sound changes from the one
that was heard when it was being driven on. In terms of road safety, it is essential that
the bearing is seated absolutely evenly on the lower triple tree with zero play!
Prior to thoroughly greasing the bearing and remounting the triple tree, it must be
ensured that all components are 100% clean.
If the bearing cups are mounted very tightly on the steering column, assembly
is made easier by heating the bearing cups beforehand so that they expand
slightly.
5 | Storage
Please handle the Rothewald Driver and its adapters carefully and do not store in a
