Synergy Q/MD Engineering Manual (v9.1 MD)

Software Upgrades and Options • 6–9

This completes the procedure for preparing the switcher before performing the upgrade. Ensure that
the switcher is fully powered up before attempting to perform the upgrade.

Performing the Upgrade

After you have performed the factory default, you must unseat the Video Processor Boards and
Squeeze & Tease Carriers, upgrade the switcher core and ensure that it is working, and then propagate
the upgrade to each of the boards you unseated individually.

Depending on the number of boards, cards and modules in the switcher, and the current version of
software on them, it will take between

and

40

minutes

to complete the upgrade.

Unseating Front Frame Boards

Refer to the following table and the illustrations of the Q/MD frames for information on which slot
each front frame boards are installed in.

Figure 6.1

Board Slots in the Front of the Q/MD Frame

Use the following procedure to unseat the front frame boards:

1. Open the frame door to gain access to the front frame boards.

2. Identify the

and

Squeeze & Tease Carriers

in the frame. Only

these boards need to be unseated.

3. If a tie wrap has been used to secure the extractor tabs on the sides of the board, remove

the tie wraps form the required boards.

4. Locate the two locking tabs at either side of the board you want to unseat.

5. Grasp both locking tabs and rotate them towards you and out towards the outer sides of

the frame. This unseats the board from the midplane.

6. Gently slide the board about

inches (

cm) out from the front of the frame. This

ensures that no pins can make contact.
