Replacing the EEPROM
The first step in the USB controller upgrade is to replace the EEPROM, a process that requires you to:
• Open the switcher panel
• Replace the EEPROM
Opening the Synergy 1 Control Panel
Use the following procedure to open your Synergy 1 control panel:
1. Create a backup of all your Synergy memory registers. Refer to the section “ Storing
Memory Registers ” of the Synergy 1 Operation Guide for information on saving
memory registers to a floppy disk.
2. Power off the switcher panel power supply (if your panel has dual power supplies, make
sure that both are turned off). Disconnect the power cable(s) and any other cabling
attached to the switcher.
3. Tip the panel up so that it is resting on its back. You should see a number of screws on
the bottom of the panel.

Tip
You may find it helpful to label the cables as you unplug them to
facilitate reattaching them when you have finished the USB controller
installation.
Caution
Synergy switcher panels are heavy and contain delicate electronic
components. You may need assistance to lift the control panel.
Be careful not scratch the control panel as you lift it. You may wish to
place the control panel on a soft surface before opening it.
