Synergy 1 and Synergy 100 Maintenance Guide (v16-S1)
Synergy 1 Panel Maintenance • 11–11
This completes the procedure to test a knob (potentiometer) of the Synergy 1 control panel. Refer to
the section “
Switcher Calibration – Synergy 1
” on page 9-2 for detailed instructions on performing
switcher calibrations. Repeat the pots test after the calibration. If the number does not reach both
limits or if it does not respond, please continue with the replacement procedure.
Replacing a Potentiometer
Use the following procedure to replace a knob (potentiometer):
1. Power down the Synergy 1 control panel.
2. Remove the potentiometer caps as follows:
•
Remove
all
the potentiometer caps in the
entire section
that contains the failed
potentiometer as follows:
~
Pattern Control
potentiometers — These knobs are all in one section on the
4216A-036
board.
~
Effects Control
and
Mattes
potentiometers — These knobs are all in one
section on the
4216A-035
board.
•
Each potentiometer has a small screw that secures the knob (potentiometer) to the
shaft.
•
Loosen the screw ¼ turn and lift off the cap.
3. In order to gain access to the failed potentiometer, you must be able to lift the cover of
the control panel off the base.
•
Gently flip the control panel onto its side on a clean, flat, static free surface.
•
Locate the eleven screws on the underside of the tub.
•
Loosen and remove the eleven screws, and set them aside in a safe place.
•
Gently place the panel back down on its base.
4. For this next step, ensure you have telephone books, or a similar thick, sturdy object
available with which to support the control panel cover.
•
Raise the cover and slide the telephone books under the rear area of the side panels
to keep it raised and secure while you work.
•
Ensure you have enough workspace to access the failed potentiometer.
•
Position a work light in the control panel tub, if necessary.
5. Locate the board that contains the failed knob (potentiometer).
6. Disconnect all power and data connectors from the board. Because the end of each
connector rests in close proximity to the mating header (when disconnected), there is no
need to label the connectors.
Note
If
all pots
appear to be bad, the problem is in the cable or in the A-D
converter. In this situation, please contact Ross Technical Support, as a
board swap may be required.
