Synergy 1 and Synergy 100 Maintenance Guide (v16)
Basic Interconnections – Synergy 1
This section describes the basic types of interconnections on the control panel boards.
In the Synergy 1 panel, a single 50-pin ribbon cable is used that runs from the
Panel CPU Board
(4216A-033) to the
Pattern Switch Board
(4216A-036), up to the
Key Switch Board
(4216A-035),
across to the
Transition Switch Board
(4216A-034) and then up to the
Crosspoint Switch Board
(4216A-030).
The ribbon cable connectors are the same, but the orientation of each connector allows it to be
attached only in one place.
Notes on Synergy 1 Basic Interconnections
Please note the following with regards to the Synergy 1 basic interconnections:
•
Each each upper control panel board has a 6-pin keyed power connector (white), that
c5V, +12V and ground.
•
The faders are connected through a 16-pin dip-style socketed connector, with an
indicator that shows the location of pin 1.
•
The blue display in the panel memory area also has a 16-pin connector, directly beside
the display module.
•
The Positioner of the control panel connects with a 16-pin ribbon cable.
•
A 34-pin ribbon cable connects the
Key Switch Board
(4216A-035) to the
Pattern
Switch Board
(4216A-036). This cable carries fader analog signals, and connects the
switches in the transition area to the
A-D Converter Board
.
•
The floppy drive, or USB port if you have the
USB Removable Media Drive Option
installed, has a dedicated data connector and power connector that each run from the
Panel CPU Board
.
•
A 16-pin ribbon cable runs from the
Panel CPU Board
(4216A-033) and connects to a
mating connector on the
Transition Switch Board
(4216A-034). The
Transition
Switch Board
, in turn, has a single 15-pin cable that runs to the display itself, plus
another 2-pin connector that plugs into the
Backlight Converter Module
for purposes
of power and control.
Notes on Optical Encoders
Note the following important point regarding the optical encoders on the Synergy 1 control panel:
•
The optical encoders (at the edge of the display) use 4-pin connectors that plug into the
edge of the
Pattern Switch Board
(4216A-036).
Caution
If you need to remove these connectors in order to service an optical
encoder,
do not
plug them in backwards. If the connection polarity is
wrong, it will destroy the encoder. If you remove them, note the
polarity. Synergy 1 switchers have keyed connectors for the encoders.
