Synergy 1 and Synergy 100 Maintenance Guide (v16-S1)
Serializer/Deserializer Module Installation
Installing Serializer and Deserializer modules should only be required when you add an option, such
as Clean Feed, or in the event of an upgrade or a component failure.
•
An indication that a Deserializer has gone bad would be if all inputs do not work on a
particular bus — for example, if you get noise and static when you select crosspoints.
•
An indication that a Serializer has gone bad would be if you do not get a program or a
preview output.
Please note the following important points regarding Serializer/Deserializer Module installation:
•
Modules must be installed with their components facing the rear of the
Frame
Processor Board
.
•
As you install a module, all the of module’s pins must line up properly with the socket. If
not, damage can result.
Removing or Installing a Module
Use the following procedure to remove or install a module:
1. Ensure that the switcher is powered down, and the
Frame Processor Board
is removed
and placed on a clean, flat, static-free surface.
2. Locate the desired Serializer or Deserializer module(s) on the
Frame Processor Board
.
3. Remove a module as follows:
•
Hold the module firmly.
•
While applying upward pressure,
slowly
rock the module vertically (from top to
bottom), until the module pulls out of the socket. Avoid pulling the board out too
quickly — so as not to bend the pins.
4. Install a module as follows:
•
Carefully align the module over the socket.
•
Ensure that the board’s components are facing the rear of the
Frame Processor
Board
.
•
Use your fingers to “feel” for the proper pin-to-socket alignment.
Important
All
Serializer Modules
are the same. In case of failure of a critical
module (such as Program), you can swap a module from a non-critical
location (such as an unused Clean or Aux slot) in order to continue
production. You can
not
hot-swap modules.
Caution
Observe all static discharge precautions throughout the procedure.
Caution
Failure to reinstall a module with a precise 1:1 pin-to-socket
orientation will damage the
Frame Processor Board
, the selected
module — or both! Double check your work!
