For some test scenarios, an adjustment of the ALC parameters (loop tuning) can
improve the stability and speed of the ALC.
ALC with mmWave Converters
Loop tuning is particularly beneficial for frequency converters R&S
ZC500,
R&S
ZC750, and R&S
ZC1100.
To use ALC with mm-wave converters, the following is required:
●
Suitable leveling data
This can be either factory leveling data or leveling data collected using the con-
verter leveling tool (see
https://www.rohde-schwarz.com/software/zcxxx/
). The lev-
eling data must use a step size of 1
dB, which can be enforced with the leveling
tool setting "Fixed ALC Configuration".
ALC is only operational within the power and frequency range of the leveling data.
●
Active
The required calibration can either be performed in the leveling tool or in the
R&S
ZNAZNA firmware.
●
Factory leveling data
Leveling dataset stored on the EEPROM of the R&S
ZC converter. Can be loaded
by the FW after establishing the USB connection. Not available yet.
●
User leveling data
Leveling data collected for the current measurement setup. The leveling tool has to
be run on all converter ports of the measurement setup, which requires multiple
power meter sweeps.
●
Generic leveling data
Instead of colllecting user leveling data for every single converter port, it is often
sufficient to reuse a previously recorded user dataset of a converter port of the
same type.

Data Flow
The analyzer processes the raw measurement data in a sequence of stages to obtain
the displayed trace. The following diagram gives an overview.
The diagram consists of an upper and a lower part, corresponding to the data process-
ing stages for the entire channel and for the individual traces. All stages in the diagram
are configurable. Note that the channel data flow for S-parameters (and quantities
