Spare Parts Storage
If equipment that contains electrolytic capacitors (for example, power supplies
and power cells) is stored (unpowered) under normal storage temperatures
and conditions, it can be kept up to 15 years. After 15 years, the electrolyte
inside the capacitors dries because the rubber seals of the capacitors start to
deteriorate. During the storage period (of up to 15 years), it is also required to
maintain the health of the electrolytic capacitors (to preserve the aluminum
oxide dielectric).

Power Supplies
1606 Power Supply
If an average storage temperature of 25 °C (77 °F) is maintained, energize the
item for approximately 10 minutes with nominal input voltage.
At adequate storage temperatures, this procedure should be performed at least
every five years. At higher temperatures, this procedure should be performed
every three years.
UPS Batteries
It is not recommended to purchase spare batteries and keep them in local
storage. Batteries must be stored under special conditions (refrigerated
environment) to slow down the rate of self-discharge.
Power Cells
Energize the power cells for 1…2 hours every year of storage. If the power cell
was stored for a longer time without energizing (longer than one year) or the
yearly energizing procedure was skipped, then the reforming procedure must

Signal Conditioners
These components have a lifetime storage period of three years.
