Chapter 6: Maintenance
Overview
This chapter describes troubleshooting procedures for the CO-04C. It also includes
procedures for replacing the batteries and replacing various consumable parts.
WARNING:
RKI Instruments recommends that service, calibration, and repair of RKI
gas detectors be performed by personnel properly trained for this work.
Replacing the sensor and other parts with original equipment does not
affect the intrinsic safety of the instrument.

Troubleshooting
The troubleshooting table describes error messages, symptoms, probable causes, and
recommended action for problems you may encounter with the CO-04C.

• The LCD is blank.
• The unit got turned off.
• The batteries needs to be
replaced.
• The battery cover may not be
completely closed.
1. To turn on the unit, press and briefly
hold POWER MODE.
2. Replace the batteries.
3. Be sure the battery cover is completely
closed and that the screw is tight.
4. If the difficulties continue, contact RKI
Instruments, Inc. for further instruction.
• The LCD shows an
abnormally high
reading but other gas
detection instruments
do not.
• Charcoal filter needs to be
replaced.
• The CO-04C needs to be
recalibrated.
• The sensor needs replacement.
1. Replace the charcoal filter.
2. Recalibrate the unit.
3. If the difficulties continue, replace the
sensor and calibrate.
4. If the difficulties continue, contact RKI
Instruments, Inc. for further instruction.
