The Ripmax Pro-Peak Varipulse charger has two types of Power Input. Mains AC220-240V
(50/60Hz) or 12V DC via an alternative power source, such as a battery or 12V mains
power pack. These two power inputs allow charging at home or at the place of operation.
Under no circumstances should the two Power Inputs be connected at the same time.
The charger is designed for individual Power Input operation.
• Plug the IEC mains connector into the charger Mains Input Socket at the back of the
charger (No. 1 ). Take note of the Mains Fuse Holder (No. 3) at the base of the mains
input socket identified by the drawing of a fuse in the casing.
• Having attached the mains lead, connect to a wall socket. The correct charger mains
lead, to suit the country of use, should have been selected at the time of purchase.
Mains input leads are available for most countries.
• Turn 'ON' the mains wall socket and the 'ORANGE' LED will illuminate to indicate power
to the charger, and the charger is ready for use. Turn 'OFF'.
• If the 'ORANGE' LED does not illuminate, this indicates that no power is reaching the
charger. Check the fuse in the mains lead plug (if applicable), and the fuse at the base
of the Input socket. Spare fuses can be purchased from most electrical shops. Only use
a fuse with the correct rating, 250V 2A, otherwise damage may occur to the charger.
This will not be covered under warranty. (To change the fuse see section headed
'Changing the Fuse').
• Using the two Crocodile Clips on the end of the fixed lead exiting at the rear of the charg-
er (No. 2 ), connect the 'RED' clip to the Positive (+) connection of the power source (i.e.
battery etc.) and the 'Black' clip to the Negative (-) connection.
• Once connected the 'ORANGE' LED will illuminate to indicate the charger is ready for use.
Under no circumstances reverse the crocodile connections or attempt to connect the DC
crocodile clips to an AC220~240V mains power source. This will result in serious damage
to the charger, not covered under warranty, and possible electrocution.
• Located at the front of the charger is the charging Output Connector block (No. 4 &
below). This block has spring loaded connectors to allow a variety of different battery
charge leads to be easily attached. The charger comes complete with a standard 7.2~8.4V
lead and connector. Other connectors are available from your original point of purchase.
• To connect the Output Charge lead, first ensure the bare wires at the end of the leads are
neat and tidy. It is best to have tinned/soldered ends. Select the connector terminal with
the correct polarity for the first wire to be connected (i.e. Red wire to the Red Terminal
(+) (No. 5) and depress the lever at the bottom of the selected terminal block. Whilst
depressing firmly, carefully insert the wire into the hole at the centre of the terminal.
Release the lever and the connection for the first wire is complete. Repeat for the Black
Terminal (-) (No. 6).
• Always check that the connection contact is 'Good' by gently pulling on the wire, it
should be firmly fixed in the terminal block. A 'Bad' connection could affect the perfor-
mance of the charger. Check also for loose strands of wire outside the socket that could
touch and short out.
• To remove the Charge Lead depress the lever and remove wire. Always disconnect the
battery first to avoid the possibility of short circuits.
