2.4.2 : Conduction-Cooled PMC Installation and Removal
To install a conduction-cooled PMC module, proceed with the following steps:
1. Attach an ESD wrist strap to your wrist and securely attach the other end to chassis ground.
2. Turn the system power off and disconnect the AC plug from the system.
3. Carefully remove the VP3500 from the VPX chassis and place it on a cushioned, flat surface. An
ESD pad is the ideal option.
4. If front panel access is required, remove the conduction-cooled PMC/XMC IO bar from the VP3500
front panel area by unscrewing it and install the custom IO bar that is designed for your PMC.
5. Carefully slide the PMC module faceplate-side into the VP3500 front panel PMC opening.
6. Align the PMC connectors on the module with the connectors on the VP3500 and, carefully, but
firmly, press down until the connectors make a clean and solid connection.
7. Install the PMC mounting screws that are provided with the PMC card to the heat frame on the top
side of the VP3500. Tighten the screws. Rugged applications should use Loctite 242 (or similar)
on the threads.
8. Reinstall the VP3500 into the VPX backplane from the slot from which it was removed.
9. Replace the system AC power cord and power up the system.
For removal of the PMC, follow the above mechanical steps in reverse.
