Commissioning/shutdown

6.1  First commissioning

Normally,  the  pumps  have  already  been test-run
with  water.  Unless  special  agreements  have
been made, there could still be small amounts of
residual water in the pump. This must be noted in
view of a possible reaction with the medium.

Long-life grease and grease lubrication:

A distinction is made between rolling bearings that
have long-life grease and those that can be relu-
bricated.

If  there  are  lubricating  nipples  on  the  bearing

pedestal,  the  rolling  bearings  must  be
relubricated.

See

section 7.2.2

Where  no  lubricating  nipples  are  present,  the

rolling bearings are permanently greased. Re-
lubrication

is

not

possible

and

not

necessary. See

section 7.2.1

The  rolling  bearings  have  long-life  grease.

Relubrication  is  not  possible  and  not
necessary. For service life, see

section 7.2

Oil bath lubrication:
Fill the bearing pedestal with oil!

For  oil  type  and  oil  filling,  see

sections  7.2

  and

7.8.5

6.1.1  Filling the pump housing

Check to see whether the screws on the suc-

tion  flange,  discharge  flange,  housing  flange
and drain flange are tight.

When  retightening  the  housing  screws,  make
sure  that  the  support  bracket  is  released.
Otherwise, the pump could be put under strain.

For screw tightening torques, see

section1.1

Open the suction line fully so that the medium

can flow into the pump.

Open the discharge valve so that the air in the

pump can escape.

If air cannot be vented into the discharge line,

because a pressure drop in this line is not per-
mitted,  for  example,  venting  must  be
performed upstream of the discharge valve.

Monitor the venting process until no air but only

liquid emerges.

Turn the drive shaft at the coupling a few times.

Monitor the venting process again until no more

air emerges.

Close  the  discharge  valve  again  to

allow  only  the  minimum  flow  rate
after the motor has been started.

6.1.2  Startup

Check  that  the  drive  shaft  can  be

turned easily by hand.

Check the direction of rotation of the motor with

the coupling disengaged or using a rotary field
instrument.

Viewed from the motor, the direction of rotation

of the pump is clockwise. See also the

direc-

tion of rotation arrow

 on the pump.

The pump must not run dry during the
direction of rotation check.

Check the alignment of the coupling.

  Install a coupling guard.

The  pump  must  be  completely  filled
with  liquid.  The  maximum  admissible
flow rate must not be exceeded.

Otherwise  the  plain  bearings  can  run
dry in both cases.

  Switch on the motor.

Set  the  required  flow  by  opening  the  discharge
valve.

If the motor runs but the pump does not
convey,

this

means

that

the

magnetic coupling has ruptured.

Switch  off  the  motor  immediately  to  prevent

overheating the magnetic rotor.

Then proceed as follows:

Close the discharge valve to the “minimum flow

rate” position.

  Restart the motor.

If  the  magnetic  coupling  ruptures  again,  look  for
the cause.

6.2  Operating limits

The  operating  limits  of  the  pump/unit
in  terms  of  pressure,  temperature,
power  and  speed  are  entered  in  the
data  sheet  and  it  is  imperative  to
observe them!

6.2.1  Abrasive media

If liquids with abrasive constituents are
conveyed, increased wear at the pump
is  to  be  expected.  In  such  cases,  the
inspection intervals should be reduced
compared to the usual times.

6.2.2  Minimum/maximum flow rate

The generally recommended operating range lies
between  0.3  Q

opt

  to  1.1  Q

opt

.  Consult  the

manufacturer for operation outside this range

and

observe
