CONNECTIONS – PLUMBING
All plumbing work must be carried out by a qualified person and in accordance with the requirements of the
Standard AS/NZS 3500.4 and all local codes and regulatory authority requirements.
All gas work must be carried out by a qualified person and in compliance with the Standard AS/NZS 5601.1,
all local codes and regulatory authority requirements.
Warning:
Certain types of plastic pipe, such as polybutylene pipe, are not suitable to be used as a hot
water pipe between:
this water heater and a temperature limiting device, and
this water heater and a hot water outlet if a temperature limiting device is not installed.
This water heater can produce water at a temperature and pressure which can exceed the performance limits
of these types of pipe. This may result in pipe failure leading to severe water damage to the property. If one of
these types of plastic pipe is used as a hot water pipe in the property, then a temperature limiting device must
be installed between the water heater and this pipe work.
Note:
The solar storage tank of a solar water heater should not be installed as part of a circulated hot water
flow and return system in a building. The benefits of solar gain will be significantly reduced. If a circulated flow
and return system is required, refer to
“Circulated Hot Water Flow and Return System”
on page 29.
It is necessary to remove the pipe cover (if attached) from underneath the gas booster, by undoing the retaining
screws, in order to make the water and gas connections to the water heater. Refit the pipe cover at the
completion of the installation.

WATER INLET AND OUTLETS
All pipe work must be cleared of foreign matter before
connection and purged before attempting to operate the water
heater. All olive compression fittings must use brass or copper
olives. Use an approved thread sealant such as Teflon tape on
all sealing threads. Use an approved thread sealant such as
Teflon tape on all threaded joints. Only use sufficient thread
sealant to seal a joint. Refer to the sealant
manufacturer’s
guidelines for how much and where to use. Conetite or O-ring
fittings do not require a thread sealant.
Warning:
Sealant must not be allowed in the waterways of
pipe work or fittings. Excess sealant may be carried into the
water heater where it will damage components and block the
internal filters of the gas booster. This damage to components
or blockage of filters is not covered by the Rheem warranty
and a service rectification fee will be charged.
