Checking Inlet Gas Pressure
The inlet gas pressure is checked at the gas valve inlet gas pressure test point and should
be checked with all gas appliances operating (dynamic gas pressure test).
1. Close all hot taps and ensure the water heater is not operating.
2. Remove heater front panel (refer to component replacement procedure 1 on page 50).
3.
Isolate gas supply to heater by closing gas isolation valve located adjacent to
heater.
4. Using a small flat bladed screwdriver, loosen
screw inside inlet gas pressure test point and
attach manometer hose to test point.
5. Restore gas supply.
6. Turn on all other gas burning appliances in the
premises which are on the same gas supply.
7. Open a hot tap fully and ensure the burner is
operating at full capacity. Note: it may be
necessary to open a second hot tap to ensure
the burner is operating at full capacity.
8. Check manometer reading whilst burner is
operating. Inlet gas pressure should be 1.13 ~
3.5 kPa for Natural Gas or 2.75 ~ 3.5 kPa for
Propane.
9. Close the hot tap(s).
10. Turn off the other gas burning appliances in the
premises.
11.
Isolate gas supply to heater by closing gas
isolation valve located adjacent to heater.
12. Remove manometer hose and tighten inlet gas pressure test point screw.
13. Restore gas supply and check for leaks at test point using a soapy water solution.
14. Replace heater front panel.
Checking & Adjusting Burner Gas Pressure
The burner gas pressure is checked at the burner gas pressure test point and must be
checked and if necessary adjusted for both the minimum and maximum operational
settings.
Ensure inlet gas pressure is within specification before checking or
adjusting burner gas pressure.
Attempting to adjust the burner gas pressure will NOT overcome low inlet
gas supply pressure problems.
1. Close all hot taps and ensure the burner is not operating.
2.
Close the gas isolation valve at the gas inlet to the water heater.
3. Remove the screws holding the front panel to the water heater.
4. Gently disengage the front panel and pull downward to remove from the water heater.
