Das amerikanische M16 Halftrack wurde im Jahr 1942 auf
Grundlage des M3 Halftrack als eine Flugabwehr-Plattform
entwickelt und bis 1943 in einer Gesamtanzahl von 724
Fahrzeugen hergestellt. Eingesetzt zum Schutz von Panzer-
und Infanterieeinheiten gegen Angriffe der gegnerischen
Luftwaffe, hatte diese Waffe einen überwältigenden Erfolg.
Die Vierlingsflag bestand aus 0,50 Kaliber Maschinen -
gewehren, die sich auf einem Maxson-Gefechtsturm mit den
bekannten Munitionskanistern an der Seite, befanden.
Trotz der alliierten Luftüberlegenheit gegen Ende des 2. Welt -
kriegs, kämpfte die deutsche Luftwaffe weiter außerordent-
lich Tapfer gegen die Rheinüberquerung der alliierten Truppen,
wodurch das M16 Halftrack seine hohe Leistungs fähigkeit
unter Beweis stellte.
The American M16 half track was developed in 1942 from the
M3 half-track as an anti-aircraft platform and by 1943 a total
of 724 had been built. Used to protect tank and infantry units
against enemy air attacks, these weapons were an over-
whelming success. The four-barrelled AA gun consisted of 0.50
calibre machine guns mounted on a Maxson turret with the
usual ammunition canisters on the site.
Despite Allied air superiority towards the end of World War II,
the German Luftwaffe continued to fight extremely bravely
against the Allied troops crossing the Rhine, during which time
the M16 half-track demonstrated its great capabilities.
