3.2.3.5.1 Points to be observed when using measuring wheels
The diameter of the measuring wheels offered by REA JET (the types with a circumference of 200
mm) is only approx. 5.6 mm larger than the diameter of the shaft encoder housing. The surface of
the measuring wheel extends therefore only approx. 2.8 mm over the surface of the shaft encoder
housing.
When measuring the route with a measuring wheel on a soft
surface (e.g. a conveyor belt), the installation must be
performed so that only the measuring wheel is on the surface.
The housing of the shaft encoder should always be outside
this surface.
Figure 107: Shaft encoder with ground through housing as a result of incorrect assembly.
The shaft encoder displayed above was mounted via a conveyor
belt. The housing was ground through as a result of the low
distance and the soft conveyor belt subject to deformation when
under pressure.
3.2.3.6 Suspended measuring arm for shaft encoder with solid shaft
The suspended measuring arm can be easily installed in various positions and allows for the
precise setting of contact pressure. Due to the uncomplicated handling, this assembly element is
used in many applications. When using this holding system, it must be ensured that the measuring
wheel is mounted directly to the shaft of the shaft encoder.
