NOTE: If drive belts squeal during start-up, increase belt tension
to the highest allowed value. Re-check tension during each
inspection.
16.2 Electrical
1. Check motor starter for proper o v erload set-
tings. The o v erload setting m u st eq u al the f u ll
load amps (FLA) of motor.
2. Meas u re the s u pply v oltage w ith the air t u rn-
o v er u nit off and then on. For a system that is
po w ered w ith three phase po w er, meas u re the
v oltage of each phase.
3. Verify correct fan rotation.
4. While the fan(s) is r u nning and the bu rner is
off, meas u re the total system c u rrent dra w w ith
an ammeter. Meas u re the system c u rrent dra w
again after the bu rner adj u stments are made
and w ith the bu rner and b lo w er b oth on.
16.3 Airflow
Factory cali b rated, the air flo w s w itches are safety
de v ices for bu rner air flo w . If an air flo w s w itch does
not close, the pro b lem may not b e the air flo w s w itch.
It co u ld b e an indication of an air flo w pro b lem
(incorrect fan rotation, etc.)
16.4 General Start-up Procedures (All Fuels)
A thoro u ghly q u alified bu rner technician sho u ld b e
employed to pro v ide the initial bu rner start u p. Before
b eginning start u p, the technician sho u ld thoro u ghly
st u dy and b ecome familiar w ith the exact seq u ence
of operation and all other details of the specific flame
safeg
u ard control system b eing u sed. Beca u se of the
v ario u s flame safeg u ard controls b eing u tilized, a
separate man u fact u rer's bu lletin is s u pplied w ith the
air t u rno v er u nit.
Complete and/or re v ie w all preca u tions and
inspection proced u res in pre v io u s sections and
bu rner man u fact u rers' literat u re.
Close main and man u al bu rner sh u t-off v al v es. Open
oil s u ction line man u al v al v es and others as
appropriate.
Tighten all scre w s on terminal b locks in control
ca b inet in case some may ha v e loosened d u ring
transit.
Check v ent stack to ens u re it is open and
u no b str u cted.
Check rotation of main s u pply motor(s) and bu rner
b lo w er b y momentarily making contact of the motor
contractors/starters. Proper rotation is imprinted on
the air t
u rno v er u nit for the s u pply fan(s) and on the
fan(s) ho u sing for the bu rner.
Check operating controls, limit controls, flame
safeg
u ard control reset, high and lo w gas and/or oil
press u re s w itches (if u sed) and lo w fire interlocks (if
u sed) and all other applica b le interlocks. All contacts
sho u ld b e closed (an exception w o u ld b e the lo w gas
and/or oil press u re s w itch.
16.5 Fan Start-Up
Place main disconnect s w itch in the on position and
the fan selector s w itch in the man u al position and the
S u mmer/Off/Winter s w itch in the s u mmer position.
With the main s u pply fan motor r u nning take and
record its amp dra w , ret u rn the selector to the off
position.
16.6 Burner Start-Up
