Congratulations on buying the Dr Freakenstein Dwarf
! It’s a unique kind of full-on fuzz pedal, offering
an amazing range of new sounds including a fully controllable harmonic overtone, and a hi-pass
filter/bit-crusher for all kinds of extreme rock and techno situations, and all with a built-in noise gate.
CONTROLS
Tone knob
; This adjusts the pitch of the harmonic overtone.
Volume thumbwheel
; this adjusts the pedal’s volume.
Igor
; This is a unique pressure-sensitive foot controller for controlling the overtone while you play,
plugging into the socket on the top end panel. When using Igor, the main control knob acts as the low
‘end-stop’ for Igor’s range.
Igor has two sensitivity settings; use it hard-side-up and it takes a firm press to operate it. Used
rubber-side-up is more sensitive
– and can even be used by hand on this side. (Carpet use may
make the two sensitivities less different).
Hi/Lo switch
; This controls the depth and intensity of the overtone operation.
Igor Mode switch
; This controls whether the Dwarf works with Igor controlling just the overtone pitch,
or the pitch with hi-pass filter morphing into a bit-crusher. At some settings this can sound like an
extreme phaser rising and falling, or even a primitive octave-down
effect… ‘Tune’ it to find the sweet
spots by turning the tone knob.
When using Igor on overtone pitch mode (button out) the Tone knob acts as a low end-stop for the
range; if ‘Tone’ is set to high (a short range) you may not notice much change with Igor use.
On/Off footswitch
; this turns the pedal on or bypasses it (with true bypass).
NOTE
* The Dr Freakenstein Dwarf has a built-in noise gate, and is best used with your instrument volume
up full
– otherwise your sustain may be compromised.
* Power supply unit should be centre earth, 9v.
