New Wiring Instructions for AG2401c3 Intermatic Surge Arrestor on Rain
Bird PAR+ES Controller
The Intermatic AG2401c3 surge arrestor was introduced a year ago replacing the AG2401 which is
discontinued. Based on design changes made by Intermatic the wiring instructions in our PAR+ES
Installation Manual, which were specific to the AG2401, no longer apply to the AG2401c3 and must not
be used. Failure to wire the surge arrestor properly will not adequately protect the controller against
surge damage.
The AG2401c3 must be wired as indicated below in order to function properly. In all cases the
instructions provided by the supplier, Intermatic should be followed. The green LED on the device will
indicate that the wiring was done correctly and the surge arrestor is operational.
-
Follow the instructions in the PAR+ES
Installation Manual to mount the surge
arrestor to the junction box as shown in
the picture below.
-
Run the three wire leads from the
surge arrestor, two black and one
white, into the junction box.
- For
120 VAC installations
, connect
the two black wires from the surge
arrestor to the HOT (black) power wire.
Connect the white surge arrestor wire
to the NEUTRAL (white) power wire.
- For
220/240 VAC Single Phase –
Three-wire (Black, Red and Green)
installations
, connect one black wire
from the surge arrestor to the HOT
(black) power wire, and the other black
wire to the other HOT (red) power wire.
Connect the white surge arrestor wire to the EQUIPMENT GROUND (green) power wire.
- For
220/240 VAC Single Phase – Four-wire (Black, Red, White and Green) installations
,
connect one black wire from the surge arrestor to the HOT (black) power wire, and the other
black wire to the other HOT (red) power wire. Connect the white surge arrestor wire to the
NEUTRAL (white) power wire.
