The advantages of using PANTONE Color matching are that it is easy
to use, it is widely supported, and that it is good for spot color. How-
ever, it is not as accurate as other methods of color matching, it can't
be used for photographs, and it is only supported by applications.
About Printer Default Screening and CRD
Options
The printer’s default screening and CRD (Color Rendering Dictionary)
settings can be changed through the QMS-developed Macintosh and
Windows drivers or, if your application requires you to use a non-QMS
driver, you can change the printer-default screening and CRD at the
printer’s control panel (Administration/Emulations/PostScript menu).
See chapter 1, “Printer Configuration,” of the reference guide for infor-
mation on using the control panel.
Screening
The printer has two screening options: Enhanced (the default) and
ColorSmooth.
Enhanced amplitude-modulation (AM) screening, which is the factory
default setting, is provided for business applications and should be
used in the following situations:

If your jobs contain mostly solid (spot) colors.
n
If you are using the Pantone POCE or Apple ColorSync color
management system, or if you are producing PANTONE simula-
tions.
ColorSmooth uses frequency-modulated (FM) screening, which
places micro-dots in a mathematically-induced random pattern to pro-
duce smoother color transitions, bright, accurate colors and laser-
sharp image rendering. ColorSmooth eliminates the rosettes, moiré
