Chapter 4:
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
4.1 General
Your Pursuit is equipped with AC and 12-volt DC electrical systems. The AC system can draw current from
one of two sources, either shore power outlets at dockside or the optional generator. The DC system draws
current from on-board batteries.
The Group 31, 12-volt batteries provided in your boat are of the lead-acid type. They will require similar
maintenance as those found in automobiles. The three batteries are located in the aft bilge area.
There are electrical schematics included in this manual to assist with servicing the electrical systems.
4.2 DC Distribution System
There are three batteries, one for the starboard engine, one for the port engine and a house or accessory battery.
All batteries can be charged by the engine or by the battery charger when connected to shore power. An
automatic voltage control system manages charging of the batteries whenever the engine is running.
The battery switch panel is located in the machinery space and the Main Distribution Panel (MDP) is located
on the side of the helm seat. Twelve-volt power is distributed from the battery switch panel to the 24-Hour
Essential Breakers inside the battery switch enclosure and to the MDP. Breakers on the MDP protect switch
panels located on the helm, in the cockpit and in the cabin. A circuit breaker located on each engine protects
the engine ignition systems and gauges. Please refer to the engine owner's manual for information on the
circuit breakers installed on your engines.
PROPER FUSE OR BREAKER PROTECTION MUST BE PROVIDED FOR ALL 12-VOLT
EQUIPMENT ADDED. DO NOT OVERLOAD THE ACCESSORY CIRCUIT BREAKERS OR
OTHER CIRCUITRY THROUGH ADDITIONAL 12-VOLT EQUIPMENT.
COMPONENT DESCRIPTION
Battery Switch: These switches feed the engine(s)
and DC circuits. These are "ON/OFF" switches.
Turn the switch so that the green "ON" indicator
is displayed. All switches should be in the "ON"
position whenever the boat is in operation.
Parallel Switch: Connects the batteries together for engine starting or charging of all batteries.
Voltage Sensitive Relay (VSR): The VSR allows two batteries to be charged either by one engine or by
the on-board battery charger. The VSR prevents both batteries from being discharged by automatically
isolating the engine battery. A red light indicates when the house battery is being charged.
