Reader Configuration
Introduction
The Reader’s programmable (configurable) features can be custom-
ized to accommodate your site’s unique requirements. The On-Screen
Programming and Viewing (OSPV) software allows commands to be
sent directly from the host PC. The software provides menus and
click-on selections to enable users to easily reconfigure the Reader for
their particular environment.
The following describes the configuration fields/prompts as they are
presented in the tabbed pages.
The OSPV software provides the same selections as the programming
labels in the printed Programming Guide and also allows you to
select other functions (e.g., Diagnostics options) not previously avail-
able.
Most Reader programming falls within three general categories:

Communication Interface Selection and Settings
– These are the
mandatory settings necessary to allow communication with
your host terminal. Examples of these settings are
RS-232 baud rate and parity.
• Symbology Selection Send Settings – The Reader has the capabil-
ity to autodiscriminate as few as one, and as many as all
available symbologies. Additionally, the Reader may be pro-
grammed with the standard options available for the various
symbologies such as check character, minimum label length,
fixed and variable length bar codes.
CAUTION
Your Reader may have been custom preconfigured with
settings that are unique to your site and may differ from
the factory default
settings.
NOTE
To optimize the Reader’s performance, active symbology
recognition should be limited to only those symbologies
in use at your site.
