Part of an object starting mid-air.
PrusaSlicer can
recognize these issues almost every time - these errors
usually appear if you manually delete an important
support point. You can fix it by re-generating the supports
or by adding support points manually.
6.13. Printing large and heavy objects
When printing large and heavy objects, you may find out that the standard supports are not strong
enough to support the weight of a large object.
There are two ways how to deal with large and heavy objects:
Change the settings for supports,
make them thicker and sturdier
1.
Hollow the object in PrusaSlicer
- see the next chapter
2.
You can easily modify the support parameters by opening the Print Settings tab in PrusaSlicer
and selecting Supports. There are three values you should try modifying:
Support pillar diameter
- changes the diameter of supports
1.
Support head front diameter
- changes the size of the support head
2.
Support head penetration
- changes how far into the model will the support head go
3.
If you're trying to print a very large objects and it has a tendency to detach from the platform
during the print, try changing the Print profile before you start printing again. Select the project
from the file browser and go to Print Settings. Change the Print profile to the slower option -
the tilt will be slightly slower resulting in a lesser pulling force on the object.
6.14. Hollowing objects in PrusaSlicer
All objects sliced for the SLA printers are completely solid by default. There is no infill pattern like
in FFF/FDM 3D printing. Solid objects printed from the liquid resin can be heavy and robust, but
the resin consumption is high compared to hollow objects, especially when printing large models.
Hollowing out your 3D model is a great way to:
save a considerable amount of material (lowers the print price)
lower the surface area of each layer - which decreases the force needed to detach the print
from the display when moving to the next layer
reduce the number of needed supports (lower weight of printed model)
