Using “bridges” is not recommended - FFF/FDM 3D printer users know a method called
bridging. It means the printer can extrude and cool down the string of filament in mid-air to
overcome a gap between two points even without using supports. However, this is not
recommended for SLA printers. The first layer of the “bridge” is usually too thin and flexible, so
the rest of the layers won’t adhere perfectly and little cracks and gaps can appear. Add
supports or find a better orientation for the object.
ALWAYS carefully check the sliced object in the Preview window and make sure that there
are no unsupported parts of the model or other issues that would cause the print to fail
6.6. Importing an object into PrusaSlicer
Once you start PrusaSlicer, select the Original Prusa SL1S in the
Printer menu on the right side of the window. If it’s not listed, you
can add it either by selecting Add a new printer option in the same
menu, or by going to
Configuration -> Configuration Wizard. Then,
select the layer height in the SLA print menu and finally the resin
you want to use. Please note that built-in resin profiles have pre-
defined and tested settings. If you select a wrong profile, it may
affect your print due to incompatible exposure times.
PrusaSlicer allows you to
import STL, OBJ, AMF and 3MF object
files - these are the most common types of 3D files you can find on
the internet. You can either drag-and-drop them in the Plater
window, or you can use the
Add… button in the top toolbar.
Next, use the tools in the left toolbar to Move, Scale and Rotate the model. If the object is blue, it
means it’s too big for the print platform. See the next chapter (6.7 Positioning an object) for more
details. Every object is different, so there’s no default orientation that would work for every
object. However, you can find a couple of examples in the next chapters that will give you a better
idea how to rotate and support certain types of objects.
