Features Introduction
If the server has a corresponding RAID configuration, defective HDD modules
can also be replaced during operation.
An external SCSI interface is also offered optionally to allow external storage
subsystems to be connected. You will find further information in the Options
Guide (see
“Literature” on page 115 ).
Onboard SAS controller with IME functionality
The SAS controller is equipped with “Integrated Mirroring Enhanced” function-
ality for operating internal hard disks. IME also provides RAID functionality for
configuration of the internal hard drives (RAID level 1, 1E).

To configure “Integrated Mirroring Enhanced”, the controller has its own
RAIDSelect Utility. For further information, refer to the “Integrated
Mirroring User’s Guide” on the
ServerBooks DVD (select “Controllers”
from the menu).
Onboard SAS controller with RAID functionality
The RAID functionality of the 8-channel SAS controller can optionally be
enabled by a corresponding upgrade kit (MegaRAID PCI Express). RAID levels
0, 1, 10, 5 and RAID 50 are supported. You will find further information in the
“PRIMERGY TX300 S3 Options Guide” (see
“Literature” on page 115 ).
Accessible drives
A number of mounting locations are available:
– two 5.25 inch half-height (1.6 inch) locations for accessible drives (CD
burner or magnetic tape drive).
Alternatively, two of these locations can be used to install a 3.2 inch high
accessible drive (magnetic tape drive) or HDD extension box.
– one 5.25 inch half-height (1.6 inch) location with a 3.5 inch slimline floppy
disk drive (1.44 MB) and a slimline DVD ROM drive. A LocalView module
(optional) can also be installed. You will find further information in the
Options Guide (see
“Literature” on page 115 ).
The accessible drives integrated in the traditional 5.25 inch mounting locations
cannot be replaced online.
