Applications
These microscopes are suitable for student use in primary and middle
schools for observing various biological specimens, such as spores,
insects and stem sections. Model MS-01L is equipped with three
objectives and the standard disc diaphragm. Model MS-03L has the
additional 100X oil immersion objective, a spiral mounted substage
condenser with iris diaphragm and the mechanical stage slide holder
(optional for MS-01). Both MS-01L and MS-03L are equipped with
a built in rechargeable battery and a detachable AC power cord for
cordless operation.

Mechanical Stage: movable spring clip installed on the stage platform
which holds the microscope slide in place and allows slide to be
moved left/right or forward/backward during observation. Two knobs
control the X & Y movement.
Operation
1.
Put slide on the observation stage platform and fix with clips.
2.
Turn the coarse adjustment (large) knob, observing the image of
the specimen through the eyepiece. Use the fine adjustment
(small) knob for more clarity.
3.
MS-01L
: The disc diaphragm, located directly below the stage,
has six different size apertures (openings) which allow light to
pass through to shine on the specimen. By rotating this disc, you
can alter the amount of light that is aimed at the specimen.
MS-03L
: The spiral mount condenser assembly can be shifted
up or down by means of the control knob (left hand side under
the stage) to effectively move the light beam closer to (up) or
away from (down) the specimen under observation. The iris
diaphragm on the bottom of the condenser can be opened
(slide lever forward) or closed (slide lever back to left) to
control the amount of light directed through the condenser.
Try experimenting with various settings to get the most
effective view of your specimen.
4.
Rotate nosepiece as needed for desired magnifications and adjust
fine focus slightly for clearest view.
5.
It is important to remember when adjusting the focus that the
objective should never touch the specimen. When increasing
to 100X objective (1000X magnification-Model MS-03L
only), the objective will appear to be very close to the slide.
Because the 100X is an oil immersion objective, a drop of
cedar-wood oil or other immersion oil should be applied in the
gap between the objective and the specimen. (Note: All slides
should be prepared with cover slips over the specimen for
observation under the 100X objective.) The 100X oil
immersion objective should be wiped off with a piece of soft
clean cloth or lens tissue to remove the
immersion oil
immediately
after using.
