3.9.6

Utilization of the NIU Shelf Positions

The four NIU shelf slots are wired to the first four shelf slots in the Teleline shelf. 
Deployment of a circuit utilizing Teleline shelf slots 1 - 4 will require either an NIU 
terminating unit or a cut through card. This will then provide a communication 
circuit path for the circuit from the Teleline shelf to the protector block.

3.9.7

Using a Teleline Shelf Without Deploying an NIU Device

Any of the Teleline shelf slots can be used for any circuit type. However, if the 
circuit does not utilize a NIU card in the NIU shelf, a cut-through card must be 
utilized in the NIU shelf to provide connectivity through the NIU shelf.
