DRIVE BELT TROUBLESHOOTING
BELT WEAR/BURN DIAGNOSIS
CAUSES
SOLUTIONS
Driving at low RPM
Drive at higher RPMs. Gear the machine down.
Check belt deflection.
Insufficient warm-up
Warm the engine at least five minutes. Put the
transmission in neutral to warm belt. In extreme
cold weather, take the drive belt off the snowmobile
and warm it up. Break snowmobile loose from the
snow.
Towing at low RPM
Do not tow in deep snow. Use fast, aggressive
throttle to engage clutch.
Riding with high RPM
and slow speed (8000
RPM/10 MPH/16 km/h)
Lower the gear ratio. Reduce RPM. Avoid riding in
high ambient temperatures. Check for snow
ingestion.
Ice and snow build-up
between track and
tunnel
Warm the engine at least five minutes. Take the
drive belt off the snowmobile in extremely cold
weather and warm it up. Break snowmobile loose
from the snow.
Poor engine
performance
Check for fouled plugs and water, ice or dirt in the
fuel tank or fuel line.
Loading snowmobiles
onto trailers
Skis may gouge into trailers and prevent the
drivetrain from spinning properly. Use enough
speed to drive the snowmobile completely onto the
trailer. Push and pull it to finish loading if necessary.
Clutch malfunction
Inspect clutch components. Your dealer can
perform this service.
Slow, easy clutch
engagement
Use fast, aggressive throttle to engage clutch.
