Alternator Belt
Belt Adjustment
Check the alternator belt at the correct service interval as out-
lined in the Periodic Maintenance Chart beginning on page 78.
Stop the machine on a flat level surface. Put the gear selector
in Park, stop the engine and exit the vehicle. See page 41.
1. Raise the cargo box. See page 62.
2. Remove the three bolts
(Item 1) and remove the
shield (Item 2).
3. The belt tension is cor-
rect with 5/16 - 1/2 in (7
- 10 mm) of belt deflec-
tion at the mid span
(Item 3) of the belt,
when 20 lb (89 N) is
applied to the belt.
4. If the belt tension is not
correct, loosen the
mounting bolt (Item 4)
and adjustment bolt
(Item 5).
5. Move the top of the
alternator (Item 6) to
tighten the belt.
6. Tighten the mounting
and adjustment bolts
(Item 4 and 5). Tighten
bolt (Item 4) to 15 ft-lb
(20 Nm) and tighten bolt (Item 5) to 28 ft-lb (38 Nm)
torque.
7. Install the shield (Item 2) and three bolts (item 1).
8. Lower the cargo box. See page 62.
Belt Replacement
Loosen the mounting and adjustment bolts (Item 4 and 5) and
move the alternator toward the engine. Remove the belt.
Install the new belt and adjust as shown under Belt Adjust-
ment.
