DIGITAL WRENCH – OUTPUT STATE CON-
TROL TESTING
Output State Control is a menu item located under
Special Tests. Output State Control is a set of service
tests that can be used to determine if the ECU can
perform the selected operation when commanded by the
user.
NOTICE
Verify the stand-alone or vehicle battery is fully charged
prior to performing tests.
CAUTION
Never handle ignition components when performing
ignition coil tests, and DO not smoke or perform fuel
system tests around open flame. Performing fuel pump,
ignition coil, or fuel injector tests can present a potential
fire or electrical shock hazard. Verify fuel hoses are
secured and fuel injectors are installed in the engine
prior to performing fuel pump or fuel injector testing.

DESCRIPTION
q
A list of components that can be tested. Select a
test with the pointer and then push “Start” to
initiate the test.
w
Test Display Field – When test is running, a
countdown timer will display in this field along
with an “Abort” button.
e
Start Button – Click on the “Start” button to
initiate the test.
IMPORTANT
Verify there is a sufficient amount of fuel in the fuel tank
to prevent fuel pump damage when performing the fuel
pump test.
NOTICE
Test items may appear different than what is shown and
are vehicle-specific.
Some test items require battery power to be connected
to the DC PWR Test connector. For example:
• When testing the chassis relay (Load Shed), battery
power must be connected to the DC PWR Test
connector along with the ECM PWR Test connector.
During this test, turn on the driver hand and thumb
warmers. These components should begin to warm–
up as the test is being conducted. If the high beam
LEDs are turned on, they should illuminate.
Activating the fuel pump performs the same function as
Fuel Pump Prime. Fuel pressure during this test should
match the pressure specification provided the battery is
fully charged.
Audible “clicks” should be noted when testing the chassis
(load shed), exhaust valve learn (gauge) relays, and fuel
injectors.
When performing the exhaust valve actuator test, the EV
actuator should be seen and heard moving the push /
pull cable.
NOTICE
If equipped, the battery charge relay can be tested if
battery power is supplied to the DC PWR Test
connector and the chassis (load shed) relay is tested.
The starter interlock relay automatically switches when
battery power is supplied to the Gauge PWR Test
connector.
