PISTON REMOVAL
1. Remove the cylinder head. See Cylinder Head
2. Remove the cylinder. See Cylinder Removal page
3. Remove piston circlips

. Discard circlips.
NOTICE
A small screwdriver may be used to aid in circlip
removal. Gently pry out the hook portion of the circlip
carefully remove. Only the outer circlip needs to be
removed for piston removal.
4. Push piston pin

out of piston. If necessary, heat the
crown of the piston slightly with a heat gun if pin
cannot be removed by hand.
IMPORTANT
Do not apply heat to the piston ring. The ring may lose
radial tension.
If needed, the piston can also be removed using a
Piston Puller and the correct Pin Puller Adapter.

5. Remove the piston from the connecting rod.
6. Carefully remove top compression ring

by hand or
using a ring removal pliers.
•
Piston ring pliers:
Carefully expand ring and lift it
off the piston.
•
By hand:
Placing both thumbs on the ring ends,
spread the ring open and push up on opposite side.
Do not scratch ring lands.
IMPORTANT
Do not expand the ring more than the amount
necessary to remove it from the piston, or the ring may
break.
