USPS® Mailer ID
This 9-digit number is required when using Electronic Return Receipt. To get this number, you need to
submit Form 5053, Bulk Proof of Delivery to the USPS.
Customer Reference Number
When using Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) your system prompts you to enter a customer reference
number. You can use the customer reference to identify the mailpiece recipient in any way you
choose: by name, by a unique customer ID, by invoice number, and so on.
The customer reference can be up to 14 alphanumeric characters long and is included with the
mailpiece transaction data your system uploads. This feature greatly enhances mailpiece tracking by
linking the reference number to the package ID (tracking number).
Creating a combined barcode label job
The combined barcode label was created specifically for Electronic Return Receipt (ERR) customers.
You should create a job if you want to use these labels.

In order to use ERR, you should have a Bulk Proof of Delivery - Form 5053 on file with the USPS
and been given a 9-digit USPS Mailer ID. You will need to enter this number when using ERR. If
not, please contact your sales representative.

ERR is available when you use the Attached Scale or Manual Weight entry modes.
Important:
Turn off all tracking services prompts, except for Print Receipt, before creating and running mail with
a combined barcode label job. If necessary, the prompts can be turned on again later.
Follow the steps below to create a job that will allow you to scan the combined barcode label. Setting
up the job in this manner will ensure you can process mail as quickly as possible.
1. Place a piece of mail or package on the scale.
2. Select Class from the Mail Information list on the left side of the screen.
