Speaker system setting
• Default setting:
Normal(SB/FH)
The r e a r e seve r al ways you can use the speake r te r minals
with this r eceive r . In addition to a no r mal home theate r
setup whe r e they a r e used fo r the f r ont height speake r s
o r f r ont wide speake r s, they can be used fo r bi-amping
the f r ont speake r s o r as an independent speake r system
in anothe r r oom.
1 Select ‘Speaker System’ from the Manual SP Setup
menu.

2 Select the speaker system setting.
• Normal(SB/FH) – Select fo r no r mal home theate r
use with f r ont height speake r s in you r main (speake r
system A) setup.
• Normal(SB/FW) – Select fo r no r mal home theate r
use with f r ont wide speake r s in you r main (speake r
system A) setup.
•
Speaker B
– Select to use the B speake r te r minals to
listen to ste r eo playback in anothe r r oom (see
Switching the speaker terminals
on page 74).
• Front Bi-Amp – Select this setting if you’ r e bi-
amping you r f r ont speake r s (see
Bi-amping your
speakers
on page 25).
• ZONE 2 – Select to use the (su rr ound back) B
speake r te r minals fo r an independent system in
anothe r zone (see Using the MULTI-ZONE controls on
page 74).
3 If you selected Normal(SB/FH), Normal(SB/FW), or
Speaker B in Step 2, select the placement of the
surround speakers.
In a 7.1-channel su rr ound system with su rr ound
speake r s placed di r ectly at the sides of the listening
position, the su rr ound sound of 5.1-channel sou r ces is
hea r d f r om the side. This function mixes the sound of the
su rr ound speake r s with the su rr ound back speake r s so
that the su rr ound sound is hea r d f r om diagonally to the
r ea r as it should be.

• ON SIDE – Select when the su rr ound speake r s is
positioned r ight beside you.
• IN REAR – Select when the su rr ound speake r is
positioned obliquely behind you.
4 When ‘Setting Change?’ is displayed, select Yes.
If
No
is selected, the setting is not changed.
You will r etu r n to the Manual SP Setup menu.
Speaker Setting
Use this setting to specify you r speake r configu r ation
(size, numbe r of speake r s and c r ossove r f r equency)

a good idea to make su r e that the settings made in
Automatically conducting optimum sound tuning (Full
Auto MCACC)
on page 43 a r e co rr ect. Note that this
setting applies to all MCACC p r esets, and cannot be set
independently.
1 Select ‘Speaker Setting’ from the Manual SP Setup
menu.
2 Choose the set of speakers that you want to set,
then select a speaker size.

• Front – Select LARGE if you r f r ont speake r s
r ep r oduce bass f r equencies effectively, o r if you
didn’t connect a subwoofe r . Select SMALL to send
the bass f r equencies to the subwoofe r .

Center
– Select

if you r cente r speake r
r ep r oduces bass f r equencies effectively, o r select
SMALL
to send bass f r equencies to the othe r
speake r s o r subwoofe r . If you didn’t connect a cente r
speake r , choose
NO
(the cente r channel is sent to
the f r ont speake r s).
• FH – Select LARGE if you r f r ont height speake r s
r ep r oduce bass f r equencies effectively, o r select
SMALL
to send bass f r equencies to the othe r
speake r s o r subwoofe r . If you didn’t connect f
r ont
height speake r s, choose
NO

1 Depending on the positions of the speake r s and the sound sou r ce, in some cases it may not be possible to achieve good r esults. In this case,
set the setting to
ON SIDE

2 If you’ r e using a THX speake r setup, set all speake r s to SMALL .

fo r the f r ont speake r s the subwoofe r will automatically be fixed to

. Also, the cente r , su rr ound, su rr ound back, f r ont

LARGE
if the f r ont speake r s a r e set to

. In this case, all bass f r equencies a r e sent to the
subwoofe r .
