WRITING MANAGEMENT DATA TO A USB
STORAGE DEVICE
When this unit is used with a USB sto r age device to p lay music,
va r ious management data files a r e c r eated within the sto r age
device. The management data a r e of the following th r ee ty p es, and
sto r ed within the hidden di r ecto r y named “PIONEER” (in HFS+
fo r mat, named “.PIONEER”). Note that if these data folde r s and
thei r files a r e deleted, cue and othe r info r mation c r eated by the
unit will be deleted.

CUE folder
Cue data files a r e c r eated wheneve r cue p oint memo r y is used with
t r acks on the USB sto r age device. A ppr oximately 200 bytes of
s p ace a r e r equi r ed fo r each cue p oint.

PLAYLIST folder
Playlist data files a r e c r eated wheneve r a p laylist is c r eated fo r
t r acks on a USB sto r age device. A ppr oximately 100 Kbytes a r e
r equi r ed fo r each p laylist.

LIBRARY folder
This folde r is c r eated wheneve r the UTILITY sc r een is used to make
a music lib r a r y. Sto r age s p ace r equi r ed p e r t r ack r anges f r om
seve r al hund r ed bytes to about 1 Kbyte.
CONNECTING AND DISCONNECTING USB
STORAGE DEVICES
 Indicator contents
Dis p lays the connection status fo r the USB sto r age device.
• The communication status between this unit and the USB
sto r age device can be confi r med by viewing the sto r age device’s
status lam p .

Connecting a USB storage device
By connecting a USB memo r y o r othe r USB sto r age device, the
music files on the sto r age device will be r ead into this unit.
1 Connect the device to the USB1 or USB2 port.
2 Confirm that the indicator lights red.
Confi r m on the f r ont p anel that the indicato r fo r the p o r t used
has changed f r om not lighted to lighted r ed.
Not lighted Device not connected
Lighted steadily Device is detected
Flashing (two stages) The
STOP
button has been pr essed and
device is being dismounted.
If the
STOP button is r eleased while the
indicato r is flashing slowly, the dismount
will be canceled.
MEMO
• USB sto r age devices su pp o r ted by this unit a r e of the class of
USB mass sto r age devices including exte r nal ha r d discs,
p o r table flash memo r y devices, and digital audio p laye r .
Howeve r , o p tical disc devices such as exte r nal DVD/CD d r ives
cannot be used.
• When connecting a USB sto r age device containing a la r ge
numbe r of folde r s and files, some time may be r equi r ed to r ead
in the device contents.
• When a connected USB sto r age device contains multi p le
p a r titions, only the initial p a r tition can be used.
