Installing Spectrum Software

Before you Start

NOTE: Before connecting the PC to the RamanFlex 400 spectrometer you must install the

Spectrum software. We strongly suggest you read the

PC Requirements

starting on

page 37 before starting the software installation.

NOTE:

Before installing the software, we recommend that you read and print the Release

Notes which can be found as a .rtf file and a .pdf file on the root of the CD, because

they contain important information that may not be in this manual or the Spectrum

Help.

To read .pdf files you will need Adobe Reader 5.0 or later. An installation of this

software is available on the

Software Utilities CD

Before installation, please ensure that:

•

All programs have been closed, including any anti-virus software running on the PC.

•

The USB cables between the PC and the RamanFlex 400 and, if appropriate, between

the PC and triggered fiber optic probe, are NOT connected.

If the PC you intend to use already has a copy of Spectrum installed and is being used to

control IR instruments, you should follow the steps described below before you carry out the

installation required to enable the PC to control both the Raman and IR instruments.

Launch the Spectrum software.

When you are prompted to select an instrument, choose the Work Offline option from

the drop-down list and then click OK.

Use the menu option Administration > Instrument and Accessory Configuration

> Remove Instrument to remove each IR instrument, in turn.

When you have removed all of the IR instruments, close down Spectrum.

Uninstall the Spectrum software from your PC.

You are now ready to begin the installation procedure. Once you have installed the software,

you can reinstall the IR instruments.
