Siting the Instrument
Adverse environmental conditions will affect the quality of the results obtained from the
instrument. In particular, major changes in temperature should be avoided. When moving
between environments where the temperature difference is more than 10 °C, you should
leave the instrument to stabilize before starting to collect data.
The following conditions should be observed, as far as is practicable, in order to obtain the
best results.
• The instrument should be set up on a surface that is flat and level.
• Any supporting surface must be strong enough to support the combined weight of the
instrument and any ancillary equipment without warping or wobbling.
•
There must be two power points available (one for the instrument power supply unit
and one for the PC).
• Floor vibrations or noise from heavy manufacturing equipment can affect the
performance of the instrument.
• Avoid proximity to intense magnetic fields.
• Never place the instrument near a window that receives direct sunlight.
We recommend that you use the instrument in a room which meets the appropriate safety
requirements for a Class 3B laser product.
Ensure all users understand laser safety issues before locating and using the instrument.
Consult your laser safety officer and perform a risk assessment before using the equipment.
