Notice to the User of the Australian
Telecommunications Network
Paradyne Models 3920/3921
Modems connected to the Australian telecommunications network must have a valid
AUSTEL permit. This modem has been specifically configured to ensure compliance with
AUSTEL standards. Do not adjust the modem or software outside the values listed below.
To do so would result in your modem operating in a non-compliant manner.

Call Attempts/Retries
Applications software shall be configured so that no more than 3 attempts are made to
establish a connection to given number. There must be at least 2 seconds between call
attempts. If the call sequence is unsuccessful, there shall be a delay of at least 30 minutes
before attempting to call the number again.
Factory Default Settings
Use of the factory default settings will result in the modem operating in a compliant manner.
Failure to set the modem, and any applications software used with the modem, to the
values shown above will result in the modem operating in a non-compliant manner.
Consequently, there would be no permit in force for this equipment, and the
Telecommunications Act 1991 prescribes a penalty of $12,000 for the connection of
non-permitted equipment.
