Using a Paradox® stand ard lens at the recomme nded installation
height of 2.1m (7ft) ±10%, the Para dox D igital Visio n de tector will
provide full coverage from 1.5m (5ft) to 14m (45ft) w ithout any dead
zones (FIG-3).
Avoid placing the detector in proximity t o th e f ollow ing sources of
interferen ce : reflective su rfaces, dire ct a ir flow, sources of stea m/oil
vapor, infrare d light so urces and o bje cts causing temp erat ure
change s. Digital Microw ave D etection will be h ampered if installed
clo se to vibrating me tal surfaces, ro tating fans, w ater flo w in plumbing
pipes or electrom agnetic sou rces. Also note, microw ave freq uencie s
can pen etrat e walls, t here fore, avo id installing the unit wh ere it can
re sp ond to m otio n on the oth er side of the pro tected a rea's w alls. To
change the lens, choose the d esired lens (see ht tp://ww w.paradox.ca)
and perfo rm t he follo wing (FIG-1):
a) rem ove the front cover of the d etector (1) by gently pushing the
co ve r pin (2) in w it h a screw driver.
b) pull ou t the bezel (4) by lightly pressin g on the b ezel pins (5) & (6).
c) rem ove the lens and replace it with t he altern ate lens. (N ote: w hen
the ne w lens is properly installed , the grooves should be inside the
bezel and th e le ns ca talo gue num ber on top.)
d) rep lace the bezel by lightly p ressin g into place a nd verify that the
le ns is centered.
After selecting t he d etector's location, drill or pu nch out holes for the
screw s a s d escribe d below (see FIG-1 a nd FIG-4 on the oth er side).
COR NER MOU NT:
Carefully remove the PCB (9 ) by loosening PCB
screw (12) and utilize holes A, B, C and D .
FLAT SU RFA CE MOU NT:
C aref ully rem ove the PCB (9) b y loosening

TESTING
Ensure th at J1 is ON and insert a ju mper be tween J2 and J3 a s
described in FIG-5 (se e other side). After cha nging the setting, allow 3
seconds for the chang es to take effect.
Walk-test the protected a rea while mon ito ring th e red LED . If the red
LED is flashing rapidly, it mean s that it is de tecting low level sig nals,
wh ich are not stro ng enou gh to gen erate an alarm . Reduce
microw ave sen sitivity by using a sm all flat scre wdriver to tu rn the
PCB's microw ave sensitivity trim mer (FIG-1 ) cou nterclockwise until a
minimum re quired sensitivity is achieved, while ma inta ining sufficient
dete ction response. If the micro wave detector is too sensitive, it will
dete ct m ovement from outsid e the w alls of th e protected area. The
microw ave rang e (sensitivity) can be adjusted. Un like the infra red
dete cto r, microw ave det ect ion is se nsitive to movemen t app roaching/
re ce din g fro m the de tector.
After the w alk-test, perform a non-movement test. After corre ct
sensit ivity adjust ment, th e re d LED sho uld not illum inat e. If it doe s,
this m eans t hat the microwa ve det ect or is dete cting movem ent or
interferen ce from som ewhe re in side or outside the prote cte d area.
Interference may be generated b y electromagn etic sources o r mo ving
objects, even if they are locate d out of view. In this case, try to
re locate the det ect or. U pon completion of t he m icrowave walk-te st
re move the jum per b etwee n J2 and J3.

TESTIN G
Set J1 to OFF, and insert a jum per b etwee n J2 and J3 as described in
the FIG-5 (see o ther side). After changing th e setting allow 3 second s
for the chan ges to take effe ct.
At 20°C (room temperature), you sh ould not b e able to cross m ore
than one comp let e zone (co nsisting of 2 beam s) in the coverage a rea
with an y kind of m ovement; slow/f ast walking or running. App roximate
width of a f ull beam at 14m (4 5ft) from the detector is 1.8 m (6ft) see
FIG-3. Up on co mpletion of walk test ing remove the jump er betw een
J2 and J3.
